Rayness "Boogan" Tryggestad, age 86 of Westby, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at his home. He was born near Bud on June 25, 1925 to Ray and Stella (Erickson) Tryggestad. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was on the Destroyer USS Blue which was present at the signing of the Peace Treaty. On September 7, 1953 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Clementine Buerskin in Urbank, MN. They lived in Rockford, ILL prior to moving to Bud where they owned and operated the Bud Store for 35 years. In 2005, Boogan and Clementine moved to their present home in Westby. He enjoyed his Tuesday card playing at the Westby V.F.W. Boogan was also an avid golfer up until the last few years. His love of golf has been instilled in his family and is now enjoyed by his granddaughter, Sara. In addition to his wife, Clementine, he is survived by two children: Barb Tryggestad and Glen and his wife Renee Tryggestad; one granddaughter, Sara Tryggestad, whom Rayness adored; one sister, Emogene Phillips of Chippewa Falls, WI; many cousins; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John in infancy, Layton, Gerald; and two nephews: Ikie who died in infancy and Aaron. Friends may call on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Military Graveside Services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Viroqua Cemetery with the U.S. Navy Honors Team.
