Reba M. Buckles, 97, of Viroqua, died Monday, May 7, 2012. Reba M. Buckles, 97, of Redmound died Monday, May 7, 2012 at Bethel Home in Viroqua. Reba was born on March 15, 1915, to John and Dora (Faubian) Wakefield on a farm in the Retreat area. She married Joe Buckles on May 11, 1940. They moved to the Redmound area and were a farm team from the start.She worked in the fields, drove horses, put up hay, milked cows, picked corn by hand, tended pigs and chickens and raised a huge vegetable garden all through the years, canning and freezing everything they didnt eat. Reba and Joe raised six children in a home filled with love and fun times.As grandchildren came, they provided many fun farm memories for all of them. Reba was an excellent cook and baker, she was known throughout the neighborhood for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies pancakes and strawberry jam. She baked every day. After Joe passed away in 2001 she moved to Maple Wood in Viroqua and has lived at Bethel Home since 2010. Reba is survived by her children: Donna (LaVon) Crum of Trempealeau, Willard (Molly) Buckles of De Soto, John (Iclal) Buckles of Austin, MN, Garry (Laraine) Buckles of Genoa, Frank (Caroline) Buckles of Lake Wissotta; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; son Bobby in 1982; husband Joe on April 25, 2001; brother Clair Wakefield; and sisters Katherine Parmenter and Edna Schlict. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Redmound.Pastor Karen Bankes will officiate with burial in Walnut Mound Cemetery.Friends may call on Thursday at the church from 12 noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua and DeSoto are serving the family.
