Reuben Dregne

Reuben Dregne, age 89 of Viroqua, entered into eternal life with his Savior on Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua where he had resided for only about a week. He was born on August 23, 1917 in the township of Franklin, Vernon Co. Wisconsin to Knute and Kiah (Fortney) Dregne. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Franklin Lutheran Church. Reubens early childhood years were spent on the family farm on Stump Ridge. In 1927, the family moved to the farm where Reuben continued to reside until November 7, 2006. On August 9, 1939 he was united in marriage to Beulah Matson. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua where he had served on the church council and several committees. In addition to farming, Reuben drove school bus for the Viroqua School District for 13 years. He is survived by three children: Ramona (Adrian) Johnson of LaCrosse, Mark (Ruth) Dregne of LaCrosse and Sara Dregne Deters of Spring Grove, MN; daughter-in-law, Susan (James) Fiore of Verona; 12 grandchildren: Jay (Kristine) Johnson, Carl (Lisa) Johnson, Amy (Scott) Yenor, Matthew (Claire) Dregne, Andrew Dregne, John Dregne, Ann Dregne, Mary Dregne, Paula Dregne, Isaac Deters, Jake Deters and Luke Deters; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Clifford (Hildegarde) Matson of Viroqua. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah, one son, Paul Dregne; and two sisters, Ruth and Maxine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Lindsay Jordan will officiate with burial in the Belgium Ridge Cemetery, rural Viroqua. Kristie Halverson was the organist and Wayne Sherry provided vocal music. Casketbeareres were Reubens grandson. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the organization of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
