Richard D. Rhyner, age 85, of Ferryville, died on Thursday, August 6, 2009. Richard Rhyner, age 85, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 6, 2009. He was the son of Alfred and Ina Mae (Jones) Rhyner. He was born July 7, 1924 in Schofield, Wis. After his mothers death he was raised at St. Michaels Orphanage in La Crosse, Wisconsin until he was sixteen. Richard never married, but he had lots of friends. He worked in Flint, Michigan, Beloit and Janesville, Wis. He also worked on the Arnold Huntington farm in Crawford County for forty seven years. After farming he lived with Cecil Henthorn for 12 years before moving to Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing, Iowa. Richard loved to fish, hunt, trap and play cards. He liked to watch and listen to the Brewers baseball games. Richard is survived by a sister, Anna (William) Ward of Beloit; nieces and nephews: Mary (Louis) DeRone, Dale (Penny) Henthorn, Raymond (Pamela) Henthorn, Cecil Henthorn, Anne (Richard) Ace, Mary (Ken) Anderson, Jean (Donald) Steichen, Lorriane (Robert) Povillie and Lawrence (Mary) Rhyner; and many great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends: Mr. & Mrs. Ron Bowers and Mr. & Mrs. Herman Sime. Richard was preceded in death by two sisters: Cecilia Rhyner and Marie (Rhyner) Povillie; and three brothers: Arthur, Ben and Roy Rhyner. A memorial service will be held at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main Street (Hwy 82) in DeSoto on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Ferryville Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
