Richard Steven “Dick” Clark, 68, of Soldiers Grove died peacefully at Soldiers Grove Health Services on Sunday, May 21, 2023, after a brief illness.
He was born February 14, 1955, in Greenville, South Carolina to Richard Clark and Evelyn “Lavada” Gay. When Dick was a small child, his mother remarried to Jerome “Jerry” Hill, who was the only father Dick ever knew.
He grew up in San Diego, California and started his own sound company at the age of 13. He did live sound engineering for many famous musicians and bands. He sold his company after losing both parents by the age of 17.
He began a career as a long-haul trucker and married Sherri Small in the early 1980s. They had one son, Kyle, in 1983.
His next career was as a machinist in Rockford, Illinois where he lived until 2002, when he met his life partner, Joyce Hill, and relocated to Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin.
Dick was never secretive about his sobriety and he died five months before his 38th Anniversary in the A.A. Program. A life-long biker, he was proud to be involved in the creation of the Midwest Motorcycle Alcoholic’s Anonymous Convention (M.M.A.A.C.) in 2001, providing an annual weekend of camping and fellowship for hundreds of recovering bikers and their families from all over the country.
Dick enjoyed Fantasy Fiction, online gaming, and Medieval Re-enactment as his character, Wodam Odenfane, healer and teacher.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Edith and Charlie Hill; and Joyce’s parents, Grant and Jewell Hill.
He is survived by his partner of 22 years, Joyce Hill of Soldiers Grove; son, Kyle M (Sue) Clark of Siloamsprings, AR; sister, Donna Marie Hill of Bellingham, WA; granddaughter, Gypsy River Clark and an unborn grandchild of Siloamsprings, AR; an aunt, Shirley Sheffer of Carlsbad, CA; an uncle, George (Joyce) Hill of El Cajon, CA; and many friends and his beloved dog, Tucker.
Per his wishes, no services will be held for Dick at this time.
