Richard Doc Dr. Goss

Dr. Richard 'Doc' Goss, age 84 of Westby, died Friday, March 9, 2012. Dr. Richard "Doc" Goss, 84, of Westby died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Richard was the only child born to Victor and Vila (Barager) Goss on December 1, 1927. In 1945 he graduated from Hillsboro High School and served in the United States Army for a short period at the end of WWII. After the war Richard went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Madison. On September 3, 1953 Richard was united in marriage to Daisy Mae Pierce in New Castle Indiana. He graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry one year later. At the start of the Korean War Richard was again called to serve and this time was stationed at Ft. McCoy where he worked in the eye clinic. In 1968 they made their home in Westby and have resided there since. He had a practice in Edgerton from 1954 to 1957 and moved to La Crosse. He then practiced in Viroqua until his retirement. Richard is survived by his loving wife Daisy "Dee"; children Bill (Cathy) of Greenwood Village, CO, Roger (Serena) of La Palma, CA, and Shari Goss, of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law Steve Monk; grandchildren Talmage, Kelsey, Ombeni, Emily and Estelle; and sister-in-law Mildred K. Gray. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Ann Monk and sister-in-law Loretta. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Steven Minnema will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
