Richard M. Hooverson

Richard M. Hooverson, age 72 of Viroqua, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 Richard Maurice Hooverson, 72, of Viroqua, passed away December 1, 2007 at Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born around the Soldiers Grove / Pine Knob area in Crawford County on July 30th, 1935 to Thorvald and Rose (Aspen) Hooverson. His lifelong career was spent at the Vernon Telephone Company, but his lifelong love was the family farm. An avid Packer and Badger fan to the end, he also enjoyed cards at the winning table. He will be most remembered for the lives he touched with his incredible sense of humor and his witty expressions. He was cherished as a dear friend, brother, uncle and grandpa. He is survived by his sister Patti "Trish" Atteberry, her husband Mick & son Christopher, and long time companion Rachel Iverson, her daughter Lisa (Olaf) Iverson-Leirmo and their children, Ellery and Olivia, who proudly called him Grandpa Dick. He was surrounded by loving family members and a community of people touched by his love and graciousness. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Julianne, and his niece, Jennifer Hirschfield. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 6th, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, located at 123 West Decker (Hwy. 56) in Viroqua. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Visitation will be held at the church, beginning at 10:00 until the time of service on Friday. Interment will follow in the South Kickapoo Cemetery. The Reverend Lindsay Paul Jordan will officiate. The family wishes to thank the Gundersen-Lutheran Hospice program, for their excellent staff and compassionate care while in La Crosse, where Richard spent his final days.
