Richard M. Pond, age 87 of Ferryville, died Monday, August 31, 2015. Richard M. Pond, age 87 of Ferryville, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at Unity Point, Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. He was born on April 13, 1928 in Elroy, Wis. to Otto and Margaret (Born) Pond. Dick was the youngest of eight children and followed his father, working in the bakery, as his older brothers also did. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and arrived on the front line on Christmas Day. On April 8, 1954 he married Marvel and together they have celebrated 61 years of marriage. They had lived in the Madison area as well as Spring Green before moving to Ferryville to be near family. Richard had been a machinist at Gilson Medical Electronics for over 30 years as well as farming some of those years. In addition to his wife, Marvel, he is survived by three daughters: Cheryl (Rich) Zellmer of Waunakee, Ann (Bob) Sime of Ferryville, and Laura (Talal) Gebeen of Egypt; 10 grandchildren: Jackie (Brian) Stubbe, Robert (Lauren) Zellmer, Brad Diestelmann, Sadie (Mike) Conrad, Justin Sime, Tyler Sime, Rochelle (Rod) Espana, Jeff Shumway, Christina Girard, and Jennifer (Brian) Kilcoyne; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a 3 p.m. prayer service at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Hwy 131 and Sunset Ridge, Gays Mills.
