Richard "Rich" W.W. Pence, a loving father, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home at the “farm’’ on November 21, 2023. Born on August 31, 1954, Rich lived a life full of passion, kindness, and selflessness, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Rich was a proud graduate of Luther North High School in Chicago. His keen interest in technology led him to work as a computer tech during the early days of the computer revolution. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to work alongside his brother-in-law before eventually starting his own successful company. Rich's work ethic and dedication were admired by all who worked with him.
Rich's life was not all work; he had a deep love for music, a passion he often shared with his loved ones. He was an avid ATV rider and a Harley motorcycle enthusiast, finding joy and freedom on the open road. Rich's love for photography allowed him to capture the beauty of the world around him, particularly in nature, which he cherished deeply.
Survivors include his life partner, Renate Alm, who shared many of Rich's passions and interests. His son, Richard "Richie" Alexander Pence, inherited his father's kindness and love for life. Rich's former wife, Mary Pence and her companion, Don, remained a close friend and confidante. The Fortney family, who were very close friends of Rich, also survive him. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Richad Walter Pence and Ruth (Matthison) Pence, whose memory he honored throughout his life.
Those who knew Rich would describe him as kind, loving, and selfless. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His infectious laughter and warm smile could light up any room, making everyone feel welcome and cherished.
Rich's life was a testament to his belief in living fully and loving deeply. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and in the many lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In remembering Rich, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by kindness, love, and selflessness. His memory will forever be a beacon of light, guiding us towards living our lives with the same passion and joy that he did.
