Rick Bertholf, beloved son, brother, uncle, and grandfather was called home to be with God on Sunday, December 12th, 2021, at the age of 64. By his side was his loving wife of forty-two years, Nadine. Rick is survived by his two successful children: his favorite son, Christopher (Jamie) and his favorite daughter, Michelle King (Adam). He was blessed with three precious grandchildren. Rick’s 20+ years in the U.S.Navy spanned eight commands: the flag ship USS Oklahoma City (CG-5) stationed in Japan and included participation in the evacuation of Saigon; the USS Rogers (DD876); Puget Sound Naval Shipyard; commissioning plank owner of the Battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62); USS Dixon (AS-37); Rick was designated as a Master Training Specialist while instructing classes at Great Lakes Service School Command in the Engineering Systems School Department; decommissioning plank owner of the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2); and his last command - the USS Yellowstone (AD-41). After Rick retired from the Navy with an exemplary service record, he spent 20 years working in the private sector. Rick will receive full military honors when he is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery sometime in 2022. That service will be announced when his honoree date is confirmed.
