Rita M. Schedivy

Rita M. Schedivy, 75 of Viroqua, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010 Rita Marie (Durkin) Schedivy, 75, of Viroqua, and formerly of Chaseburg, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in her home. Rita was born on the Durkin farm in Moscow Township, Iowa County, on June 6, 1935 to Howard and Agnes (McKernan) Durkin. On April 7, 1956 she was united in marriage to Ralph Raymond Schedivy at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bangor. After graduating from West Salem High School in 1953, Rita trained to become a teletype operator in Omaha, NE, and worked at Fort McCoy and Trane Company in La Crosse using those skills. While raising a family in Chaseburg, WI, Rita took on jobs with CESA and Trane, and took computer courses at WWTI in Viroqua. She was an active member with her husband in the National Farmers Organization, attending a number of national conferences as a delegate. She edited the NFO newsletter for many years. Rita was active in Lioness and the local AARP, where she held a number of offices, and participated in a homemakers group. Over the years, both on the farm and after retiring to Viroqua, Rita gardened and regularly contributed to the Vernon County Fair, and supported the Vernon County Historical Society and the local American Heart Association. More recently, Rita enjoyed meetings with the senior citizens, especially playing scrabble. She and Ralph sang with The Sentimental Singers for a while. Rita is survived by her husband Ralph; sons: David of Chaseburg, Michael (Margaret) of Coon Valley, John (Pamela) of Westby, Leo (Brigit) of LaCrosse, Ralph Jr. (Kathy) of Chaseburg; daughters: Helen (Gary) Picha of Wisconsin Dells, Ann (Dan) Schedivy-Tollefson of Viroqua, Mary (Richard) Humfeld of Chaseburg, Norma (Michael) Limmex of Portage, Gina of Plymouth, MN; 18 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brother William, sisters Patricia, Ruth and Mary Marjorie Millevolte. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother (Richard), and a sister (Carol). Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56), in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial to take place at a later date. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 22, at the funeral home. Friends may also call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial in Ritas name.
