Robert 'Bob' Wetterlin, age 87 of DeSoto, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 Robert Calvin Wetterlin, age 87 of Victory, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua from Leukemia. Robert was born April 27, 1924 to Alva and Miranda (Johnson) Wetterlin in Victory, WI and spent his growing years there. He graduated from high school in Lansing, IA, then joined the Army Air Force serving 39 months, 15 of those in India. When Robert came back from the military he married Ona Sallander on August 21, 1948. Robert worked for the railroad for 42 years as a telegraph operator and Depot Agent. He has enjoyed 27 years of retirement working in his garden and hunting small game. He is survived by his wife Ona; sons Thomas of Viroqua; Daniel of Eau Claire; grandchildren Eric Scott and Bryan of Virginia Beach, Samantha and Adam of Eau Claire; sisters Marie Helgerson of La Crosse, Jeannette Grant of Onalaska; sister-in-law Dorothy Wetterlin of Stoddard; brother Donald (Louise) of Rochester; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Harold who was career Navy; and brother Raymond. Services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Redmound. Pastor Laverne Larson will officiate with burial in the Victory Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of De Soto is serving the family.
