Robert E. Lee

Robert E. Lee, age 77, of Mt. Sterling passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Soldiers Grove Health Center. He was born to Elmer and Thelma (Olson) Lee on January 17, 1945, in Prairie du Chien. He attended Bible School in Capernwray, England in 1965-1966. He later followed his dream and graduated from Lincoln Barber School in 1970. Robert went onto barbering in Milwaukee for the next six years prior to moving back to Mt. Sterling/Gays Mills in 1976, where he opened Robert E’s on Main Street in Gays Mills. Robert is the famous local barber in Gays Mills for over 45 years. He loved baseball and knew quite a bit of the history behind the players and teams along with having a collection of baseball memorabilia that was displayed in his Barber Shop. Robert was also an avid reader and he loved gardening. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved his small community. Most of all his love for the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Lee; one stepson, Andy (Melissa) Banasik; two stepdaughters, Wendy (Randy) Banasik and Sarah (David) Stanfield; his brother, Phil (Mary Ann) Lee; two nieces, Jennifer Lee and Stephanie Lee; seven grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan, McKenzie, Nathan, Macey, Sydney and Jasmine; and two great grandchildren, Kinsley and Hadley. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Maple Ridge Bible Church in Boscobel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
