Robert Stanton, 73, of Viroqua and formerly of Rockford, Illinois, died Sunday, February 1, 2015. Robert was born in Rockford, Illinois to Jean Newkirk and Robert Elliott Stanton. He is a graduate of Rockford West High School, class of 1959. He graduated with his Bachelors of Arts from Westmar College, LeMars, Iowa on May 29, 1966. He attended John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois for his graduate studies. Later he completed his licensing as a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser at McHenry County College. Robert served his country in the United States Army from October 1966 thru October 1968. He is survived by his daughters; Vanessa R. (Brad) Stanton and Heather L. (Pat) McDonald, his three grandchildren; Brady Stanton, Madison Stanton and Patrick McDonald, five siblings; Rick Nicholson, Steven Nicholson, William Stanton, Karen Bartel and Steve Stanton. As well as his lifelong friends; Roxann Stanton and Valerine (Dale) Jenkins and an ex-wife Sharon Stanton. Robert was an avid reader, a history expert, a master of the English language and a lifelong student of philosophy. He accomplished a lot in his life from being a Tri-State Golden Gloves champion, a husband, father, 3M manager, to a well-respected Real Estate Appraiser. In keeping with Roberts wishes no funeral services will be held and a private memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Roberts name to the Rockford Veterans Drop-in Center or the Monroe County, Wisconsin Animal Shelter.
