Rodney Johnson, 61, of Soldiers Grove died Monday, December 8, 2014. Rodney M. Johnson, 61, of Soldiers Grove passed away Monday, December 8th, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer while he was surrounded with love and support. Rodney was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on April 16th, 1953 to Judd and Betty Johnson (Pinkham). Rodney graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1971. On June 25th, 1994 he married Karen Welsh, together they raised his daughter Shelly and later took great fulfillment in welcoming their granddaughter Olivia. He was an active member of the Gays Mills Fire Department and the Gays Mills Sportsman's Club. He was an avid sportsman throughout his life and his illness didn't stop him from looking forward to opening weekend. When he wasn't spending time on the hunt he was a true family man. Rodney will also be remembered as the best friend at the end of the bar with a cold PBR waiting for the game to come on. Rodney took great pride in his work while being employed with Heisz Brothers Construction for over 20 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Johnson) Weiss and his granddaughter, Olivia 'Bumpa's Girl'; his mother, Betty; and four siblings: Rick (Linda) Johnson and Randy (Kathy) Johnson of Gays Mills, Tim (Jamie) Johnson and Robin (Johnson) Collins of Mt. Hope. Not forgetting to mention 27 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews that helped make his family complete. Rodney was preceded in death by a great niece and a nephew; also his father, Judd; brother, Kevin; two sisters, Carol and Rebecca. In his extended family he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Collin; and his mother and father-in-law, Paul and Gladys Welsh. This "Amazing Man' was loved by so many people and will be dearly missed. Lets celebrate his life and keep his memory in our hearts. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. A celebration of life will follow at Halvers Town Tap in Gays Mills.
