Roger C. Adel, 84, of Viroqua, WI, died on December 18, 2016, with family and the wonderful staff at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center by his side, with the additional guidance and the comforting contributions of the St. Croix Hospice. Roger was born on November 15, 1932, in Winner, SD, to Carl and Alma (Richards) Adel. He graduated from high school in Tyndall, SD. He attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD, where he enjoyed playing on the basketball team, and graduated in 1954 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education, majoring in mathematics and physical education. He was honorably discharged from the reserve of the United States Marine Corp in 1959. He started teaching in Jasper, MN, moving to Viroqua, WI in 1962. From then on, he had a full career of teaching high school math, teaching drivers education, coaching, serving as assistant athletic director and associate principle. He graduated from UW La Crosse with the degree of Masters of Education in Professional development in 1977. He retired from Viroqua High School in 1993. Roger was fortunate to win over the heart of the love of his life, his wife, Jeanette. They were married June 29, 1954. Jeanette died February 8, 2011. Roger was a long time member of the Viroqua country club. He and Art Bronson founded the Viroqua Open golf tournament in 1968. He was proud to coach the boys varsity golf team for many years. He was an avid fan and booster of all types and levels of sports. Roger is survived by four children; Gina Adel (Mitch) of Eau Claire, WI, Debra Fahey (Mike)of Stoddard, WI, David (Shelley) of Randolph, WI, and Daryl (Cami) of Brookfield, WI; eight grandchildren: Sean, Ryan, Dylan, Drew, Taylor, Thomas, Samuel, and Jonathan; one sister, Margerey of Canadian, TX; one brother Richard (Shirley) of Worthington, MN. In addition to his wife, Roger was preceded in death by his son Roger Joe; his parents; and his siblings John and Joyce. Box 96011,Washington, DC 20090-6011 (alz.org) or the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, 13197 Church St, PO Box 310, Pigeon Falls, WI 54760 A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday December 23, 2016 at St. Marys Catholic Church, 400 Congress Ave. and Broadway in Viroqua. Father Joseph Arockiam and Father Robert Cook will co-officiate. Burial will follow the service at Viroqua Cemetery.
