Roger M. Dahlberg

July 30, 1946 — September 9, 2024

Roger M. Dahlberg, age 78, of Eastman, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, September 9, 2024, in Eastman, Wisconsin. Born on July 30, 1946, in Moline, Illinois, to Kenneth and Ruth (Larson) Dahlberg, Roger's life was a testament to his loving, thoughtful, and friendly nature.

After graduating from Cambridge High School in 1964, Roger dedicated himself to working on the family farm. His life took a patriotic turn when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1967. Serving as an artillery specialist in Germany during the Vietnam Era, he honorably completed his service in November of 1969. Returning home, Roger continued the noble work of farming, a profession that would define much of his life.

On September 23, 1972, Roger married his beloved wife, Cheryl Brodd, at the Andover Lutheran Church in Andover, Illinois. Their union was blessed with two children, Kari and Matt Dahlberg, and later, the joy of four grandchildren, Jack, Evelyn, Millie, and Dylan. Roger's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in sharing his wisdom and creating lasting memories with them on the farm.

In 1979, Roger and Cheryl moved to Eastman, where they continued to farm until his well-deserved retirement in 2019. Throughout his life, Roger was deeply involved in his community, particularly through his longstanding membership with the McCormick-Rose American Legion Post 308 in Gays Mills. For 17 years, he served as the Chaplain, a role that earned him the esteemed Martha Marlow Award in 2014, recognizing his outstanding service and dedication to God and Country.

Roger's interests were as rich and varied as his contributions to his community. He was an avid NASCAR fan, relishing the thrill of the races. Known for his love of conversation, whether he was sharing a few words or many, Roger always enjoyed making the rounds in the neighborhood. He was a proud Swede, delighting in traditional Swedish cuisine and culture. His presence was a comforting constant, and he was always the one to have the last word in any discussion.

Roger's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife of 52 years, Cheryl Dahlberg; his loving children and their spouses, Kari (Edward) Zabel and Matt (Katey) Dahlberg; his adored grandchildren, Jack, Evelyn, Millie, and Dylan; his brother, Doug Dahlberg; his step-brother, David (Michelle) Taylor; his brother-in-law, Dell (Pat) Brodd; his sister-in-law, Linda Billiet; and a host of other relatives and friends who were touched by his kindness and warmth.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Cheryl Dahlberg; his foster brother, Jack Elliot; and his stepfather, Harold Taylor. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and their memories remained with him throughout his life.

Roger M. Dahlberg will be remembered as a man who lived his life with purpose and grace. His impact on those around him was profound, and his absence will be deeply felt. Yet, the love and lessons he imparted will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Roger's story is one of dedication—to his family, his country, and his community—and it is with both sorrow and immense gratitude that we bid farewell to a truly remarkable man.
