Roger O. Bjerkaas, age 72 of DeSoto, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Roger Olaf Bjerkaas, 72, of De Soto, Wisconsin left this world to join his wife in eternal rest on January 13, 2010. He was born April 23, 1937 to Evelyn (Denning) and Ole Bjerkaas. He was united in marriage to Lois (Hanson) on April 11, 1980. Roger worked as a conservation officer and later served with law enforcement. In his later years, he worked as a transportation manager for the DeSoto school district. Even after his retirement, he enjoyed filling in as a part-time school bus driver. Roger loved fishing, watching Nascar, boxing, the Cubs, and his Bears. He loved his family, and he missed his wife immensely.He is survived by four sons: David of Madison, WI, Peter (Jessica) of Kennesaw, GA, Martin (Holly) of Fort Stewart, GA, and John (Traci) of LaCrosse, WI.. Two daughters: Michelle (Ted) of Markesan, WI and Jennifer of Lansing, IA, and nine grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his daughter Kerry, and his beloved dog, Barney. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church at Red Mound. Pastor Bill Busch will officiate with burial in DeSoto Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main (Hwy 82), DeSoto. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
