Roger W. Olson, age 81 of La Crosse and formerly of Westby passed away on Monday, January 22, 2007 Roger W. Olson, age 81 of La Crosse and formerly of Westby passed away on Monday, January 22, 2007 at his home. Roger was born January 22, 1926 in Viroqua, Wisconsin to Gustav Adolph and Oline Josephine (Sordahl) Olson. He graduated from Westby High School and Vernon County Normal School. He served in the US Navy two years (1944 1946) in the Pacific War Zone during World War II. Roger received a Bachelor of Education form Wisconsin State College at La Crosse and a Master of Science in Education Administration from Winona State College. He was a teacher and principal at Coon Valley School and a teacher and principal at the Viroqua Area Schools. He retired after 37 years in education in 1988. He served as president of the Vernon County Teachers Association and as president of the Viroqua Teachers Association. He was a trustee and served on the cemetery board of the Westby Methodist Church. He was active in philately, numismatics and gardening. Roger is survived by his sister, Gladys (Robert) Pacl and his children: R. Daniel Olson, Pat Ashbrook, and Karen (Tim) Olson Ocain. He is further survived by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friend, Esther Fortney. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday after 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
