Roger William Kruk

A kind and gentle spirit was welcomed home on the evening of September 4, 2024.

Roger William Kruk, age 77, was born on June 22, 1947, to Walter and Mabel (Clark) Kruk in La Farge, WI. He attended La Farge High School and was often found working on farms or helping Gudgen’s with maple syrup. He worked various jobs over the years, from factory work to driving trucks for Stark and Clinton townships. In his later years, he served as a Board Member with the Westby Housing Authority. Roger was honored to be selected as the Westby Syttende Mai Senior King along with his good friend, Erma Graupe.

Roger was best known for his kindness and gentle spirit. Like his CB handle, Roger was “Easy Going” and took his time – when he met you, he remembered you. He had a love of classic country music and old westerns. He loved to dance, and when he couldn’t dance anymore, he made a point to tune into the Polka Party on television regularly. Mostly, he loved his family. Roger was a devoted son, providing daily care and support throughout his mom’s life until her passing.

Roger was proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Mabel (Clark) Kruk; brother, Robert Nelson; sister, Phyllis Vollrath (Nelson); sister, Betty Schumacher (Nelson); brothers-in-law, Donald Mickelson and Jullian “Jim” Chaput; nephew, David Nelson; great-niece, Amelia Lynn Wilson; along with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to list.

He is survived by his sisters: Linda (Donald) Fisher (Kruk), Mary Chaput (Nelson), and Doris Mickelson (Nelson); sister-in-law, Barbara Nelson (Lindvig); brother-in-law, Darrell Schumacher; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the VFW in Viroqua (751 S. Washington Avenue, Viroqua WI 54665). A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by light refreshments.

A box will be available at the VFW if you have something that you would like to share (a story, poem, reading, memory…) but are not comfortable talking in front of a group. We will read it to the group on your behalf. You may sign your name if you like, but are not required to.

The family wishes to express many thanks to Jessica with Inclusa for her care and support of Roger over the years, along with the staff at Aspen Place for providing a comfortable home and care in the last months of his life. Thank you as well to the St. Croix Hospice Staff.
