Roland Williams, 80, of Viroqua, died April 1, 2016. VIROQUA Roland Rollie Williams passed away Friday April 1, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Madison at the age of 80 years. Rollie was born June 16,1935 at home to Beulah (Luebke) and Howard Williams of Beloit, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed, and he attended schools in Beloit, Shopiere and Clinton High School. Rollie enlisted in the United States Air Force serving proudly in the Korean War as a firefighter. He also served in the United States Army, receiving his honorable discharge. He was a life member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion. He also served as commander of the American Legion. Rollie was united in marriage to Janet Sherwood in Freeport, IL in June 1953. They had a daughter Dianne, and later divorced. He went to work construction in Dixon, IL. He met Carole Voss and married in December of 1960, in Dixon. They had two children, a daughter Teresa and son Scott. They moved to Fort Hood, TX where he was stationed and after his discharge from the Army he went to work with the Temple, TX fire department. The couple later divorced. Rollie returned to Wisconsin where he worked with the Green Co Sheriffs Department and then as Chief of Police in Blanchardville, WI. He worked hard and held many jobs throughout his lifetime. Rollie moved to Cambria, WI where he met Susan Hermann. They were united in marriage on August 29, 1970 and lived briefly in Berlin, WI and Beloit. They purchased a small farm in rural DeSoto. While on the farm he developed a lung disease and had to leave the farm and then moved to rural Viroqua. Since that time his life was filled with multiple physical challenges. Yet he always displayed perseverance, strength and great courage in overcoming each obstacle. He was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed family gatherings and liked to make his famous chili. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of almost 46 years and caregiver Susan, his children Teresa Williams and Scott Williams of Temple TX, and Chad (Kristi) Williams of Viroqua WI, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Diane, a daughter Anita Sue, a brother Warren and a sister Judith. A time to gather and remember Rollie will be at Vosseteig Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker in Viroqua on Monday April 4, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. Funeral Services for Rollie will be Tuesday April 5, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua at 1:00 PM with lunch to follow. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial immediately after the service at the Zion East Cemetery in rural Viroqua.
