Rolland Oliver, 90, of Viroqua died Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Rolland LaVerne Oliver, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2011, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua after a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1920, in rural Redmound, WI, to Russell and Elizabeth (Lawson) Oliver. Rolland married Mable T. Hoyum February 14, 1942; they were divorced in 1975. (Mable passed away in December, 2007.) They farmed near Viroqua until 1945 when Rolland was drafted into the Army. After his military service they farmed near Redmound, WI, until moving to LaCrosse in 1968. He retired from Trane Company in 1986 after 20 years of service. He lived in LaCrosse until moving to Maplewood Terrace (an Assisted Living Facility) in Viroqua in May of 2010. He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Bill) Parker of Wasilla, AK; three sons, Roger (Marilyn) Oliver of Port Byron, IL; Robert (Cheryl Maslowski) Oliver of Stevens Point, WI and David (Carol) Oliver of Prior Lake, MN; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Oliver of Viroqua, WI, and a sister, Iola Mae (Sam) Ames of LaCrosse, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hilda Smith and a brother, Marvin; a daughter-in-law; two grandsons, and his companion of several years, Joyce Druesch. After cremation, the family will celebrate his life with a memorial service sometime in the next several months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Maplewood Terrace or the Bethel Home Foundation in Viroqua or a charity or your choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family.
