Ron Sobek Sr.

Ronald Charles Sobek Sr., age 80, of Boscobel, Wisconsin, joined his Savior in his eternal home February 11, 2022. After a long struggle with a number of health issues, Papa Bear, as friends and family knew him, is able to rest in peace. Ron was born at his family home on May 23, 1941, in Hoover Hollow, rural Blue River, WI to Berdeen and Myrl (Rounds) Sobek. In 1950, the family moved to rural Seneca when his father purchased the Crawford County Poor Farm. Ron graduated from Seneca High School and went on to drive bus for them for 25 years. He resided and helped farm the homestead with his family until 1990, when he left dairy farming because of developing health issues. After farming, Ron worked various other jobs until retiring in 2007. Ron was married first to Carolyn (Wolcott) 1963 to 1979, and currently married to Sheila (Tamling) 1987 to present. His pride and joy were his children: Ronald C. Sobek, Jr, (Kathleen Wallin-Sobek), Connie J. Frazier (Robert Frazier), Benjamin A. Lathrop (Jamie Fenton), Andrea Koumouganh-Ngahlem (Joseph Ngahlem), Elizabeth Sobek, and Rachel Jones (Andrew Jones) and his 16 grandchildren and new great grandson. Ron cared deeply for his large family, his Savior, Jesus Christ, church family and community. He was known for his great laugh, bear hugs, and collections of bells, banks, books, and almost anything old. Ron is survived by his brothers, Robert Sobek (Marlene) and Teddy Sobek and his sister, Patty Downing (Bruce). He was preceded in death by parents, Berdeen and Myrl; his sister, Nancy Brewer (Robert); and his sister-in-law, Judith Sobek (Teddy). He will be missed by his family including many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Ron spent his last year residing at Devine Rehabilitation and Nursing in Fennimore, Wisconsin, and was very grateful for the wonderful friends he made and great care he received. A celebration of life is planned for April 10, 2022, at the Boscobel Assembly of God Church, with visitation at 1 pm and service at 2 pm with a luncheon following at the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Blue River Cemetery.
