Ronald Gordon Dahl, age 88, of Viroqua passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born on May 24,1935, on the Dahl family farm (in the little house on the now Century Farm) to Olav and Olga (Ostrem) Dahl. Ronnie was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at Colonel May and Longfellow schools, graduated from Central high school in 1953, and started farming in 1954.
Ronnie bought Marilyn Everson’s picnic basket at the colonel May Basket social in 1956, and they married in 1957. They were dairy and tobacco farmers for 40 years. When they quit milking cows, he started working for Nelson muffler and worked there until he was 80 years old! He was always busy. Ronnie was the neighborhood fix it guy, restoring his grandpa Ole’s sawmill and he loved to tell a good story!
Ronnie enjoyed fishing on water and ice and many fishing trips to Canada. Some years he went twice, once with Marilyn in the summer and then with the guys in the fall. They went on several cruises to locations like Alaska, the Caribbean, and Cancun. He was a charter member of the Viroqua Ridge runners Snowmobile club and the Coulee Region Antique engine club where antique tractors became his passion. He and Dean rebuilt his 1954 Ford tractor including a special seat for Marilyn. He proudly displayed that tractor at shows across the country and went on many organized tractor rides. Sunny summer afternoons were spent water skiing on the Mississippi River. Ronnie joined Dean on seven hot rod power tours where they traveled the country in Dean’s ’73 mustang. He also enjoyed bowling, watching the Brewers and the Packers.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 66 years; his daughter, Debra (Dan) Vogel; his son, Dean (Terry) Dahl; his grandsons, Brandon (Chentel) Dahl and Dustin (Shari) Dahl; and his great grandchildren: Deitrich, Drebin, and Dalix Dahl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Dahl; Herbert Bahr; his in-laws, Kenneth and Olga Everson; brother-in-law, Orland Sisbach; and sister-in-law, Barbara Everson.
The family is comforted by the knowledge that Heaven is even more joyous now that he is there!
