Ronald Ray Roberts

Ronald Ray Roberts, age 87, of La Farge, WI died on February 28, 2024, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June 22, 1936, to Theodore and Hazel (Dyar) Roberts of La Farge. He attended La Farge schools where he later became head of maintenance and managed the bus drivers.

Ron proudly served in the Army including a tour in Korea. When he returned, he married Elizabeth Markee after seeing her one day across the street and thinking she was the most beautiful woman ever.

There were four things that were most important to Ron: his family, his church, the La Farge School, and the La Farge Fire Department and Ambulance. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in La Farge. Ron worked at the La Farge School for 47 years until his retirement in 2008. He was a very proud member of the La Farge Fire Department and Ambulance Squad for over 50 years, serving as fire chief during some of those years. Ron was honored to be the runner up for the State Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Year award in 2007.

Ron is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Roberts; their two sons, David of La Farge and Duane (Kathy) of Winona, MN; two grandchildren, Heather (Brad Brokaw) of Winona and Dustin (Michelle Joslin) of Baldwin, WI; and one great-grandson, Finley Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Roberts; his mother, Hazel Roberts; and three sisters, June Nofsinger, Hope Alderson, and Lois Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the La Farge Fire Department or La Farge Ambulance in Ron’s memory.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the La Farge United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at the La Farge United Methodist Church. An additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Ron will be laid to rest at the Bear Creek Cemetery with full military honors.
