Ronald “Ron” Merritt Kuhnke, 74, of Baraboo, WI passed away March 24, 2024, with his family by his side at home.
Ron, the son of Merritt and Beverly Jean (Hulbert) Kuhnke was born March 5, 1950. He was a graduate of DeSoto High School through a program with the United States Army. Ron served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War.
On June 4, 1977, he married Diane Halverson of Soldiers Grove. To this marriage two children were born, Brian and Brice Kuhnke. They later divorced.
He married Susan Winters Rosendahl on March 10, 1990, and they recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.
Ron owned and operated a gas station and autobody shop in Gays Mills for a short time. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing guitar and bass guitar in several different bands, performing 50 and 60's music including rock and country music. Ron also worked at J & H Autobody in La Crosse, WI, as an autobody technician for a number of years. Before retiring, Ron worked at McFarlands in Sauk City, WI. In his younger days, he also loved deer hunting and fishing with family and friends. One of his favorite things to do was buy and sell vehicles and campers.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Brian (Amber) Kuhnke of Soldiers Grove, WI and Brice (Breanna) Kuhnke of Richland Center, WI; stepchildren: Kimberly (Chad) Stieferman of Jefferson City, MO, Brian Rosendahl of Enid, OK, and Mike (Tabatha) Rosendahl of Prairie du Sac, WI; seven grandchildren; mother, Beverly Jean Kuhnke of Ferryville, WI; brother, Randy Kuhnke of Ferryville, WI; sister, Brenda Kuhnke-Ziebel of DeSoto, WI; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merritt Kuhnke; sisters: Robin, Linda, and Laurie; brother, Ricky; niece, Robin; and aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Ron will be laid to rest at the Walnut Mound Cemetery with full military honors following a small gathering after the service.
