Ross Vernon Abbey, age 81 of Viroqua, died early Monday morning, February 7, 2005 Ross Vernon Abbey, age 81 of Viroqua, died early Monday morning, February 7, 2005 at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua. He was born on September 7, 1923 to Harry and Mary (Forde) Abbey in Vernon County, Wisconsin. He lived all his life in Vernon County. On August 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ramona (Weber). He was employed by Viroqua (Frontier) Telephone Co., "Muny Gas" (Madison Gas & Electric) and was self employed in farming. In later years he developed his farm in the city of Viroqua for residential housing, known as "The Abbey Addition". Ross was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors and was a charter member of Viroqua Eagles Aerie #2707. In addition to his wife, Ramona, he is survived by one daughter, Susan Olson of LaCrosse; one son, Steven of Reno, Nevada; one grandson, Michael of Madison; one sister, Irene (Ingvald) Offerdahl; one brother, Ivan of Viroqua; two nieces: Ilene (Roger) Rose and Anna Marie (Jim) Peters; and a nephew, Junior Offerdahl. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Ray and Harold. Ross was devoted to his family and a great friend to many. He will be sadly missed.
