Ruby Nevel, 91, of Viola, died Tuesday, October 9, 2013. Ruby Ocain Nevel, 91, passed away October 9, 2013 at Vernon Manor, Viroqua. She was born on February 6, 1922 to Halley and Mary (Ekleberry) Smith on the home farm near Ash Ridge, Forest Township, rural Viola. She graduated from Viola High School in 1939. Ruby married Frank Ocain in 1941 and lived in Oak Park, IL where she worked at the Red Cross and as a CNA at West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park. Frank died in 1975. Ruby married Ray Nevel in 1978 and during their life together spent time traveling. Ray died in 1996. Ruby enjoyed quilting, making lap robes, doing jigsaw and word puzzles, reading, making pies and going to Kickapoo Corners for lunch. Ruby is survived by her son, William (Marsha) Ocain, San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Pat Ocain, Richland Center; stepson, Dale (Tessie) Nevel, Lone Rock; and step-daughter, Darlene (Tom) Hill, Marshfield, MO; grandchildren, Jamie Ocain, Austin, TX; Jean Chi Ocain (Karl) Kroeker, Corte Madera, CA; Arthur Ocain, MD, and David (Alisha) Ocain, San Diego, CA; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Angie & Elmer McCauley and Dionne & Cade Cary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Frank Ocain and Ray Nevel, stepson Dick Ocain; son Robert Ocain, stepdaughter Wilda (Nevel) Church, and siblings Verlyn Smith, Glen Smith, Grant Smith, Avis Bee, Alice Gochenauer, and Ruth Kotthaus. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center in Viola. Pastor Karen Bankes will officiate with burial to follow in the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with lunch at Kickapoo Corners, in Readstown. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center of Viola is serving the family.
