Rudolph J.B. Berger, 87, of rural Westby died at his home on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Rudolph J.B. Berger, 87, of Westby died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his home. Rudolph was born February 20, 1926, in Westby to Carl and Olga (Haugen) Berger. He attended school in Westby and in 1943 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served his country in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After his honorable discharge Rudolph returned to the Westby area and on July 23, 1949 he was united in marriage to Delilah Katherine Hoilien. Rudolph farmed all his life and was a life member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Westby VFW. Rudolph is survived by nine children and 17 grandchildren: Kathryn and her children Brooke, Ashley and Jedd; Peggy and her children Shane (Jamie) and Tanner; Charles (Kathy) and children Lisa (Eric), Todd, Jill, Sarah; Susan (Ron) and children Brent (Leslie) and Trevor; Linda (Ed) and child Kyle; Nancy and her children Craig, Kim (Elgin), Holden (Nikki); Michael; Jeffrey; Steven and his children Paige (J.R. Welch), Lee(Tatiana); six great-grandchildren: Hailie, Kimberly, Ellianna, Lilah, Connor and Jaycob; brothers: Roger (Sonja) Berger and their children Doug and Tammy, and Norman (Marion) Berger and their children Steven and Bobby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delilah; and brother, Chester (Ceil) Berger. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vernon Memorial Hospital, Mr. Bakkum, Dr. Fouts and their staff. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be made to the Westby VFW. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
