Ruth Ann Alanis Crum

December 8, 1956 — January 21, 2014

Ruth Ann Crum, 57, of DeSoto died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison. Ruth Ann Crum (Alanis), 57, of Retreat, WI, peacefully passed away at Agrace Hospice Care on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. After discovering her cancer was in the later stages in October, Ruth lived her last months surrounded by family and feeling truly blessed for the extraordinary life she lived. She was born on December 8, 1956 to Fernando and Margaret Varela in Chicago, Illinois. Having ten siblings: Alfred, Fernando, Mary, John, Andrew, David, Gabriel, Victor, Jesus and Connie, Ruth assumed the role of not only a loving sister, but as a role model for her younger siblings very early on. Her childhood undoubtedly shaped her compassionate and selfless attitude that carried her through life. Always yearning for adventure, Ruths journey took her to many places across the country, but it was in the beautiful town of Seneca, Wisconsin that Ruth decided to raise her "second batch" of kids after already having two beautiful daughters, Graypell and Mary. On June 21, 2012, Ruth married the final love of her life Les Crum. Together they established a painting business and lived comfortably in their quaint little home nestled in Retreat, Wisconsin. She enjoyed dancing, country music, riding horses, fashion, big hair and red lipstick. But above all, Ruth lived for her children. She gave them everything when she had nothing left. Even at her weakest points, she remained strong for her family. The greatest blessing given to all her children by God was to be a part of her life. Ruth is survived by her loving husband Les and his parents Hazel Gouwens and Leon Crum; her parents; all ten siblings; daughters Graypell Denny, Mary Niane (Soul), and Jessica Alanis; sons Joseph and John Alanis; step children Amber Crum and Dawn Hanson (Adam); grandchildren Sean Rogers, Michael Rogers (Gabriella), Savannah West (Rico), Alivia Salinas, Sterling Wilhelm and Bonham Denny; and great grandson Tristan Pozega. Ruth was preceded in death by her son Joshua. In heaven they will get to make up for lost time. Ruth was a beloved daughter, spouse, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Her heart and spirit will never be forgotten. The family wishes to thank all her caregivers at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Words cannot express the familys gratitude for the exceptional care they provided until the end. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main (Hwy 82) in DeSoto. Pastor Andy Doll will officiate with burial in the Stoddard Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 on Saturday at the funeral home. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
