Ruth Ann Clark, age 85, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Bethel Oaks Memory Care. She was born on October 18, 1938, in Viroqua to Arthur and Hilda (Thompson) Ostrem. She graduated from Viroqua High School with the class of 1956. Following graduation, she attended the Vernon Normal School and then U.W. La Crosse, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. On August 3, 1957, she married Marion Clark at Bethel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. Ruth Ann’s first teaching job was at a one room school in Brookville where she taught grades 1-8 for three years. She then taught for 34 years at Cashton Elementary School until she retired in 1997. Ruth Ann and Marion enjoyed traveling, having spent time in every U.S. state except Alaska. They spent winters in Phoenix, AZ for over 20 years where Ruth Ann enjoyed the warm weather that Phoenix offered, sitting in the sun, attending Milwaukee Brewers spring training games, and shopping in Mexico. She was blessed to have met many new friends while in Arizona.
Ruth Ann was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lionette’s Club, a member of the retired teachers association, Vernon Memorial gift shop volunteer, Festival of Trees, Relay for Life, and 4-H Club in her youth. Ruth Ann had many hobbies. Among these were traveling, collecting various items, her flower gardens, watching the Brewers, watching her family play sports, playing board games, cards, and dominos.
Ruth Ann is survived by her husband and best friend, Marion Clark; her children, Kevin (Monica) Clark and Amy (Mark) Hoffland; her grandchildren, Chasity (Tommy) Woyak, Kevin II “Kacey” (Rebekah) Clark, Mackenzie Hoffland, and Brenden (Baylee) Hoffland; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh (Sean) Fogarty, Brigham Woyak, Ethan Woyak, Kevin Clark III, Mikaela Clark, and Leo Hoffland; one great-great grandson, Cayson Fogarty; her brother, Ardene Ostrem; sisters-in-law, Catherine Ostrem, Lorraine Bunk, and Lola Mae Dewitt; brother-in-law, Dean Dewitt; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, LaVerne (Lucille) Ostrem and Charles Ostrem; sisters, Lorraine (Eldon) Johnson, Deloris (Hokey) Hokland, Eunice (Gordon) Sherry; and brothers-in-law, Tom Bunk and Lloyd (Lou) Holthaus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Bethel Oaks Memory Care.
A Funeral Service for Ruth Ann will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Additional visitation will be held Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Ruth Ann will be laid to rest privately at the Salem Ridge Cemetery at a later date. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
