Ruth Ann Olson

Ruth Ann Olson, age 86, of La Farge, died Saturday, December 7, 2024. She was born on June 17, 1938, to Charles and Ferna (Rockwell) Rush. After graduating from La Farge High School in 1956, she married Ted J. Olson on April 20, 1957. She lived and worked in Janesville for four years and returned to the La Farge area when they purchased the Olson family farm. In 1964, they purchased Nixon Oil Company and a home in La Farge. Together they ran Olson Oil Company for approximately 40 years. Over the years, Ruth worked various jobs (during pelting season at Huston’s Mink Ranch, a butcher at a local grocery store, and later she worked in the lunchroom at La Farge Area Schools). After retirement, she worked at the senior meal site.

Ruth loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and dancing the two-step.

Survivors include her daughter, Jody (Bill Marshall) Cummings, her son, Steven (DeAnna) Olson; five grandchildren, Eric (Sarah) Durkee, Joseph (Theresa) Durkee, Jacob (Marissa Samuels) Winchel, Jordan (Jake) Sadorf, and Terence (Elizabeth) Winchel; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Gail (Lonnie) Muller; sisters-in-law, Delores Rich and Wanda Rush many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father-in-law; her dear husband, Ted Olson; her precious daughter, Julie (Ronald) Winchel; two sisters, Ilene (Fred) Volkmann and Jane (Myron) Eno; a brother, Robert Rush; her son-in-law, Michael Cummings; and very special friend, Russel Kramer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the La Farge Food Pantry, La Farge Free Methodist Church, or La Farge Fire Dept.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Ruth will be laid to rest at Bear Creek Cemetery following the service. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
