Ruth J. McClurg, age 93, died Thursday April 5, 2018. Ruth J. McClurg of Viroqua, WI died Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at her home with family by her side. Ruth was born on October 19, 1924 the daughter of Albert and Ida (Lee) Johnson near Waukon, IA. Ruth was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a caregiver to many in her family from an early age and even served as a nanny outside the home at the age of 9 years old. After graduating Waukon High School, Ruth moved to Viroqua, WI to further her education in nursing. She graduated from nurses training at the old Viroqua Hospital in 1943. After graduation, she continued working there where she met her husband, Clinton McClurg. They were married on February 18, 1945 on the McClurg family farm. After becoming a farmer's wife, she stayed home to help on the farm. Ruth always had a strong faith in God and joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church early in her married life. Ruth was a Sunday School teacher, president of the Women's organization, Hub of her circles, served on the altar guild, and cut blocks for quilts. Ruth also served on the Bethel Home Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge, and the Circle V Saddle Club. Ruth was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. One way of her showing this devotion and love was by baking literally hundreds of pies every year and providing meals to anyone who showed up. Also baking whatever was requested by family, friends, and church activities. Her selfless and positive attitude will be remembered by many for years to come. Ruth was intentional about investing in others and leaves behind a legacy for her daughters Phyllis Mellem, Joyce (Kurt) Hauge, daughter-in-law Ruth L. (Connie) McClurg, brother Gordon Johnson, brothers-in-law Robert (Ruth E.) McClurg and Donald McClurg, sisters-in-law Mayonne McClurg and Faye McClurg. Grandchildren: Chad (Heather), Heidi, Jason, Nichol (Shaynn), Dachia (Andrew). Great Grandchildren: Miranda, Jake, Tyler, Alisha, Ashley, Trae, Kamryn, Raegan, Harper, Lincoln, Olivia, Macy, Landon, and Ryland. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends. She has now been reunited with her husband of 58 years Clinton (1918-2003), her sons Conrad (2011) and Larry (1985), her parents, in-laws Walter and Laura (Heasty) McClurg, son-in-law Loren Mellem (2009), brothers Kenneth (Alice), Abner (Mary), Hartley, Donald (Darlene), and sister Mildred (Norman) Vick, brothers-in-law Roland (Audrey), Eldon, Blair (Eunice), sisters-in-law Lois (Fred) McDowell, Helen (Fred) Hill. Ruth expressed her thanks to God daily and often told others how blessed she was,even up to the day before her death. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate with burial to follow in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 4-6pm at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home (123 W Decker / Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Friday from 10am till the time of service. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast, or to a charity of the donors choice.
