Ruth May (Callaway) Spangler, 97, of Viroqua, Wis., passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Maplewood Terrace where she had been a resident for the past three years. She was born October 9, 1922, to Clifford Callaway and Vercillia (Nelson) Callaway in Richland County, Wis. Family was her number one priority, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards and dancing, sewing quilts and crocheting afghans for her family, along with watching birds and planting flowers... violets being her favorite. Survivors include her sister, Margaret “Peg” Drollinger; daughter, Deanna (Wilmer); sons, Ira (Roberta), and Grover “Sam” (Pam) Spangler; grandchildren, Hugh and Travis Holak, Darby and Dan Blakley, Steve Spangler, Amy (Spangler) Condon, Lucas Spangler, and Cari (Spangler) Sherman; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Spangler; siblings, Eleanor Thomaschesky, Burl Callaway, Anson “Bill” Callaway; and daughter, Edna “Eddi” Blakley. As per Ruth’s wishes, there will be no service. A small family gathering will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at the Bloom City Cemetery.
