Sandra Hope Thayer

April 16, 1953 — April 4, 2023

Sandra Hope Thayer, age 69, of Readstown passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. She was born April 16, 1953, to Kenneth and Betty (Ewers) Anderson. Sandra attended Kickapoo High School. Growing up, Sandra enjoyed life on the farm and being with her siblings, who she loved very much. In 1971, she married Jim Clark and they had four children together: Dawn, Tami, T.J., and Amanda. In the 1980’s, Sandi and Jim divorced. In 1986, Ashley Alderman-Fish joined the family. Her kids remember her working in the tobacco fields and for the Tobacco Leaf Company in Viroqua.

Sandra worked for Coulee Cap while raising her five children on her own. She also cleaned for Dahl’s Pharmacy before she became an Environmental Service Aid for Vernon Memorial Hospital. While working at Vernon Memorial, Sandra would also have many other tasks such as transferring labs to the different clinics and cleaning and sanitizing the clinics. Sandra spent 28 years at Vernon Memorial Hospital until her retirement, which she greatly enjoyed because it gave her more time to spend with her grandchildren.

Sandra loved spending time outside, especially taking care of her lawn, which was the most beautiful in Readstown. In the fall, Sandra would go to the orchards and pick apples. Her hobbies included going to rummage sales and thrift stores, baking a variety of sweets: pies, donuts, cakes, and Sunbuckles, and cooking her signature Chicken Dumpling Soup. Sandra also enjoyed playing pool and was in a league, football, driving on the back roads of the Kickapoo Valley, camping, family cookouts, and music. She was a very independent person who never wanted to burden anyone with her troubles. Sandra deeply loved her family and her children.

Sandra is survived by her mother, Betty Anderson; Jim Clark; her children: Dawn (Chris) Clark of Wisconsin Rapids, Tami (Jake) Zabel of Holmen, T.J. (Sara) Clark of Viroqua, and Ashley (Derek) Fish of Westby; grandchildren: Tamika, Sierra, Tanner, Tristin, April, Kala, Zander, Hailey, Kaylee, Jasmine, Ariella, Leum, Zurraeah, Kya, Zayden, Jazmine, and Macey; her great-grandchildren; her siblings: Marilynn (Doug) Hill, Lynda (Scott) Donath, Julie (Mike) Miller, Susan (Randy) Hirschfield, Paula Anderson, Richard (Penny) Anderson, Randy (Carol) Anderson, and Rodney (Kim) Anderson; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Anderson; her brother, Roger Anderson; her sister, Lori (Dale) Blakley; her beloved daughter, Amanda Clark; her grandson, Skyler Jerrett; her niece, Brenda Meiners; her nephews: Greg and Troy Anderson and Kenny Green; and Rita and Bernard Clark.
