Sandra J. Grondin, age 54 of Soldiers Grove, died Friday, November 7, 2008. Sandra "Sandy" Jean Grondin, age 54 of Soldiers Grove, died Friday, November 7, 2008 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse. She was born on December 4, 1953 in Minnesota to Richard Maskrey and Helen (Melco). She graduated from South High School in Minneapolis in 1970 and was united in marriage to James Grondin on June 29, 1973. Following their marriage, Jim joined the U.S. Army and they lived in Colorado, Germany, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and finally Wisconsin where she was currently employed as a Corrections Officer at the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility in Boscobel, Wisconsin. Sandy was a real "people person" and enjoyed helping others. She had participated in many fund raisers and was always looking for ways to interact with others and make their lives better. In addition to her husband, Jim, Sandy is survived by one son, Ed (Becky) Grondin who is stationed at Forth Lewis, Washington; one step-granddaughter, Nichelle; her mother, Helen Huff, a resident at Lake View Nursing Home in West Salem; her brother and sister, Howard Melco and Marie Crea, both of St. Paul, MN; her mother-in-law, Yvonne Grondin of Owatonna, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Joann Welch. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby with Pastor Steve Corbitt of the Grace Bible Church in Portage officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
