Selma "Sally" O. Latimer, age 96 of Viroqua, died Saturday, November 1, 2008. Selma "Sally" Olene Latimer, age 96, of Viroqua passed away November 1, 2008 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua surrounded by family. Sally was born January 12, 1912 to Carl and Josephine (Olson) Berg on a farm near Belgium Ridge and grew up at a large dairy farm near Three Chimney Rock. She excelled in scholastics and received her RN in 1934. Sally returned to Viroqua to work as a nurse and married Alfred "Bill" Latimer, Jr. in 1939. After raising three wonderful daughters, Sally returned to nursing at Vernon Memorial Hospital and was Dr. David Vigs nurse at Vig-Gulbrandsen Clinic until she retired at age 79. Sally was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, VMH Auxiliary, Bethel Home Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, Garden Club, and the Vernon County Historical Society. Sally delighted in growing roses and tending her greenhouse.She is survived by her three daughters: Katy (Jim) Beno, Sandy (Dean) Christian, and Sheila Latimer; six grandchildren: Lisa, Matt, Mark, Luke, Michelle and Jon; eleven great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Michael, Chris, Josh, Sabrina, Johnny, Zach, David, Josh, Rachael and Eliana.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred "Bill" Latimer; sister, Doris Ramsett; and brother, Alvin Berg. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan and The Rev. Margaret Eiben Hoversten will officiate with burial in the Riverside Cemetery, rural Genoa. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
