Shawn Dee Janecek

Shawn Dee Janecek, age 62, of rural La Farge, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 4, 2026. She was born on March 12, 1964, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She met the love of her life, Kevin Janecek, while riding bike with her friend. Her bike chain fell off, and a handsome young farmer came by on his tractor and stopped to help her put the bike chain on. The rest, as they say, is history. They met young, had a child young, married and overcame the odds that a young couple faces. They stuck through it all. They were married on Sept. 18, 1982, and celebrated nearly 44 years of marriage.

Shawn lit up the room and had a heart of gold. She was a very accepting person and gave her love freely without expectations or judgement. She was known as ‘mama Shawn.’ She loved gardening and tending to her plants, flowers, and recently a cactus plant. She and Kevin were a very solid team together. She never said ‘no’ and together they never quit life or being a married couple and great parents. She pushed her kids to do the best they could no matter what. She was a member of the La Farge Free Methodist Church where she formed many strong friendships. She also loved baby farm animals and took joy in caring for them. Shawn spent countless nights in the barn with Kenny and Gladys delivering baby pigs. She loved crafting and sewing and her silver Ron Johnson rings.

Survivors include her husband, Kevin Janecek; her children, Starr Janecek, Karen Janecek, Kristopher (Gena) Janecek, and Kathryn “Boogie” (Winston) Athey; special sister, Renee (Kurt) Bauman; her grandchildren, Trayvon, Willow, Levi, Shyla, Teagan, Eleanor, Evelyn, Jessica, and Marie; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Shawn was preceded in death by Kenny and Gladys Janecek and an infant grandchild of Kathryn and Winston.

A Celebration of Shawn’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Andrew Kessler will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Memorials are appreciated to the La Farge Fire Department and the La Farge Ambulance Service.
