Sheila K. Fisher, age 86 of Viroqua, died Saturday, March 19, 2016. Sheila K. Fisher, 86, of Viroqua passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center. Sheila was born on February 25, 1930 in Yamagata-Shi-Honshu, Japan. She met her husband Harlan while he served in the Korean War and they were married in Japan in 1952 and then returned to Wisconsin in 1954. During their marriage they raised tobacco and dairy farmed in WI and then eventually moved to Lancaster, CA where they engaged in custom farming until 1979. Then they returned to WI and Harlan died of cancer in 1980. Sheila was an avid cook and artist. She loved to paint and made many Japanese meals for family and friends. Everyone enjoyed the recipes and learning about her culture. Although Sheila never had children of her own, her nieces and nephews were very special to her. Sheila went to WWTC and became a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1980 and was employed by the Bethel Home until 1998. During these years she was endeared to the residents and fellow coworkers. In 1985 Sheila became a United States Citizen, which she was very proud to accomplish. Sheila had a trip of a lifetime back to Japan in the early 80s and was able to reconnect with her family. She loved visiting her brothers and sisters but was happy to return to the United States which was her adopted home. Sheila was a caring and loving person to all who met her. Blessed be her memory as she joins the love of her life, Harlan and family members in the House of the Lord. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Fisher, father in-law, Donald M. Fisher and mother in-law Juanita Fisher both of Viroqua along with her parents and sister. Sheila has 2 remaining siblings in Japan, her sister, Masako Yumura and brother, Noboru Yumura. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff at Maplewood Terrace, Bethel Home and Bland-Bekkedal Hospice in Viroqua for their excellent care and compassion. Special thanks to her friend, Charlotte Kirking for her many years of friendship. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Burial will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua.
