Sheila Ann Thelen, age 71, of Viroqua, passed away at her home on July 2, 2026. Sheila was born on November 12, 1954, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, to Lemont and Patricia (Mellem) Knutson. She grew up surrounded by family and lifelong friendships that remained important to her throughout her life.
On August 24, 1974, Sheila married the love of her life, George Thelen. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion, raising two sons, Chad and Jed. This year, they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage. George was not only her husband but her best friend, and together they shared a partnership built on love, loyalty, and countless cherished memories.
Throughout her working years, Sheila was employed at Caring House (B-Care) and ORC, where she formed many lasting friendships with coworkers and residents alike. Her heart of gold, kind spirit, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In her younger years, Sheila had a deep love for horses – especially her horse, Gypsy. As life went on, she found joy in the simple pleasures—reading a good book, sewing, cooking for those she loved, playing games, and spending time with family. She and George faithfully cheered on the Green Bay Packers together, making game days a tradition they both looked forward to.
Sheila also had an extraordinary love for her dogs. Each one held a special place in her heart, and over the years Cindy, Coco, Chelsea, Gracie, Abbie, and Hambone were treasured members of the family. They brought her endless happiness, unconditional love, and faithful companionship.
Of all the blessings in Sheila’s life, none brought her greater joy than her granddaughter, Lexi. Lexi was truly the light of her life and the center of Sheila’s world. Every milestone, every accomplishment, every new adventure was celebrated with genuine pride and excitement. The walls of Sheila’s home were filled with photographs capturing every stage of Lexi’s life, a beautiful reflection of the immeasurable love she had for her granddaughter. Sheila treasured every visit, eagerly listening as Lexi shared stories about school, work, and life’s adventures. Being “Grandma” was her greatest honor, and the love they shared was deep, unconditional, and unmistakable. Lexi brought a special sparkle to Sheila’s eyes, and the memories they created together will forever remain a cherished gift to all who witnessed their bond.
Sheila is survived by her devoted husband, George Thelen; her sons, Chad (Tracy) Thelen and Jed (Diana) Thelen; her beloved granddaughter, Lexi Thelen; her siblings, Rick, Paul, Scott (Terri), and Amy; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemont Knutson and Patricia (Mellem) Jones; her infant brother, Kevin; her stepfather, Harold Jones; her sister-in-law, Sue Knutson; her grandparents; numerous aunts and uncles; and her beloved dogs, Coco, Chelsea, Cindy, Abbie, and Gracie.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Sheila’s cousin and dear friend, Lori Stellner, for her friendship, support, and kindness throughout the years. Your compassion meant more than words can express.
The family has chosen to hold a private gathering to celebrate Sheila’s life rather than hold a public funeral or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Vosseteig Funeral Home (P.O. Box 88, Viroqua, WI 54665). Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
