Shirley Vivian Hanson

Shirley Vivian Hanson, age 92, of rural Cashton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at Elroy Health Services. She was born on June 6, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa to the late William and Ada (Kelling) Johnson. Shirley married Orion Hanson on November 10th, 1951. She was a homemaker and loved sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, baking, and cooking. She was a longtime member of North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, serving on the church council. She enjoyed Polka music, and old Western movies.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra (Thomas) Fischer of Tifton, GA; Sandra (Ernie) Hass of Black River Falls, WI; her grandsons, Sean (Amy) Fischer, Chris (Sharon) Fischer, Wayne (Aimee) Kast, and Mark (Shina) Kast; greatgrandchildren, Nicolette, Kyle, Sophya, and Matthew; great-greatgrandchildren, Zenneth, Ethan, Sharlette, Trysten, Kayden, and Kendell; her brother, Ronald (Debbie) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Debra Carpenter-Johnson, Marlene Johnson, Delores (Curt) Larson; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orion; her brothers, Glenn, Wesley; her sister, Sandy (George) Charlan; her mother and father-in-law, Helmer and Marie Hanson; sister and brothers -in-law, Mabel (Ernie) Bekkum, Pearl (Leonard) Overgard, Hazel (Orville) Blihovde, Harold (Marie) Hanson; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026, at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A reception will follow the service, and Shirley will be laid to rest at Country Coon Prairie Cemetery.
