Shirley Woods, age 89 of Westby, and formerly of Cashton, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Shirley J. Woods, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2015, at the Norseland Nursing Home, Westby, Wisconsin. She was born on July 27, 1925 to Rev. Wallace V. Davison and Catherine (Nuesse) Davison Markee, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. On August 4, 1948, Shirley Davison was united in marriage, by her father, to Burnil E. Woods, in the Evangelical United Brethren Church of New Auburn, Wisconsin. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage, living on a dairy farm and mink ranch in rural Cashton. Until the birth of their first child, Shirley was a teacher for first through eighth grades, in the Dell School (one-room), having graduated from the Vernon County Normal School in Viroqua, Wisconsin. She was a member of the Dell United Methodist Church, rural Westby. Actively involved in various church activities during most of her married life: Sunday School, as teacher and superintendent, Vacation Bible School leader, Ladies Aid, Womens World Missionary Service, and a term as Church Financial Secretary. For several years, Shirley, in partnership with Dorothy Clark, deceased, of LaFarge, operated the Abundant Life Bible Bookstore. First located on Main Street in Viroqua, they later relocated the store to Westby, Wisconsin. She was, also, a member of the Viroqua chapter of the Womens Relief Corps (W.R.C.). Parkinsons disease prevented her from continuing her active services with the church and the bookstore, which she lived with for almost 25 years. Shirley is survived by five children: Diana (Robert) Poulson of Ponte Vedra, FL, David (Peggy) Woods of rural Cashton, Bruce (Kathy) Woods of rural Cashton, Tim (Robin) Woods of Endeavor, WI, and Bill Woods of the Chicago area; three grandchildren: Matthew and Corey Woods and Catelyn Woods ONeil; four step-grandchildren: Michelle Johnson Brueggeman, John Adams, Janet Holey and Ken Adams; four great-grandchildren: Alexander and Brandon ONeil, Emma Rose and Matthew David Woods; six step-great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Rebecca Holey, Kerri and Kendra Johnson, Randi Brueggeman and Cordell Adams; and a step-great-great grandson: Gabriel Adams. Preceding her in death were her husband, Burnil, her parents, her brother, Bruce (at age seven), and a step-great grandson, Bradley Adams. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Dell United Methodist Church. Pastor Eileen Kuehnl will officiate with burial in the Dell Cemetery.
