Siv Ann Meyer

Siv Ann Marie (Eklov) Meyer of Westby, WI passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Creamery Creek Assisted Living Facility in Viroqua, WI.

Siv’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Creamery Creek for the compassionate care she received during her stay with them. Also, a special thanks to Laurie and all the wonderful St. Croix Hospice staff for the attentive and empathetic care Siv received from each of the team members.

She was born on June 8, 1928, in Sweden to Oscar and Sigrid Eklov and immigrated to the United States in May of 1937. Siv graduated with the class of 1948, from Westby High School where she participated in choir along with several other school activities, but she was especially recognized for her exceptional soprano voice.

Siv received a degree in education after attending college in South Dakota followed by a 33-year business education teaching career at Brookwood High School. She loved teaching and her students respected her and loved her back. Many students continued to send cards with personal updates years after they’d graduated. All would greet her as “Ms. Meyer” followed by a we miss you!

She was a member of multiple organizations and was dedicated to each of them. She spent many years on education boards, participating in Eastern Star, and dedicated much time to her Westby Coon Prairie Church. Siv was constantly on the go, finding little time to sleep. She loved to entertain her family, friends, and classmates and to decorate for all the holiday seasons, especially Christmas. Siv’s Christmas Village was something to behold and was her pride of the season.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family in Kansas and Florida, particularly when the snow flew here! Siv had diversified hobbies: collecting, gardening, watching scary movies and Harry Potter movies, listening to classical music, art, and perhaps most of all, shopping with her daughters. The last few years, Hallmark movies were her choice of viewing entertainment, but she still enjoyed a night out for supper and a glass of good Chardonnay whenever the occasion arose.

Siv was known as “Nana” by many, and she always had a big hug for everyone. She lived a happy and full life. Having passed on many life lessons she will be greatly missed by family and all those who really knew her.

Siv is survived by her children: Steven (Jane) Meyer, Sharyl (Richard) Showers, and Signe (Russell) Haakenson; grandchildren: Heath (Kerry) Meyer, Kristen Schmitz (Todd Nofsinger), Brandon Showers, Kristina (Clint) McCabe, Justin (Carrie) Haakenson, James (Samantha) Haakenson, Jesse (Katrin) Haakenson, and Alex (Brianna) Meyer; 10 great-grandchildren; many relatives in Sweden; and sisters and brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Sigrid Eklov; her brother, Birger Eklov; her son, Stig Eric Meyer; and grandson, Kristopher J. Showers.

Memorials for Siv may be addressed to the family and will be donated towards a joint remodeling project at Westby Coon Prairie Church in Siv’s memory.

An Eastern Star Service will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Country Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Westby. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Siv will be laid to rest at the Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse during a private graveside.
