Sophia M. Olstad, age 97 of Westby/Coon Valley, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Sophia M. Olstad, age 97 of Westby, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010. She was born on June 19, 1913 in the Township of Coon to Hans and Anna (Bagstad) Stakston. She was baptized and confirmed at Coon Valley Lutheran Church and on December 1, 1934 was united in marriage to Alf Olstad. From 1935 to 1939 they lived in the Spring Valley and Faribault, Minnesota area and then bought the farm in the valley. She was a member of Skogdalen Lutheran Church, the WELCA, Ruth Circle and quilters as well as the senior citizens group. Sophia is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alf who died in June of 1972; four brothers: Palmer, Philip, Henry and George; and two sisters: Alida and Gladys. She will be sorely missed by her many nieces and nephews who considered her a second mother. Blessed be our memory of Sophia M. Olstad. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Skogdalen Lutheran Church. Pastor Gary Daines will officiate with burial in the Skogdalen Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Skogdalen Lutheran Church. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
