Teruko Hansen, 82, of Westby, died Sunday, November 22, 2015. Teruko Hansen, age 82 of Westby died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at her home. She was born in Japan on June 3, 1933. She met her husband, Karsten Hansen while he was stationed in Japan and they were later married. Together they moved to the United States in 1971 and lived in Minot, North Dakota for a few years before moving back to Japan for 4 years. Because of Karstens service in the Air Force, Teruko moved with him several times to places including Finland, Minnesota and Tacoma, Washington. Following Karstens retirement in 1986, he and Teruko moved to rural Westby and purchased their small farm. Teruko enjoyed crocheting and attending craft shows. She adjusted well to living in the United States even though she retained her Japanese citizenship. In addition to her husband, Karsten, she is survived by two children: Karsten Junior Chikuri and Henry Allen Hansen; two grandchildren: Cody and Brent Hansen; three nieces who live in Japan; a sister-in-law, Hildur (Bob) Devine of Westby; two nephews: Mark (Ann) Kvale of Sparta and Michael Kvale of Eyota, MN; one niece, Mara (Ryan) Ziegler of LaCrosse; three great-nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; father and mother-in-law; and brother-in-law: David Kvale. Blessed be our memory of Teruko Hansen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Terukos nephew, The Rev. Mark Kvale will officiate with burial in the Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday after 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred.
