Thea Fortney

Thea Fortney, 109 of Viroqua, died Saturday morning, December 31, 2011 at Vernon Manor. Thea Fortney, 109, of Viroqua, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011. Thea was born April 23, 1902 to Andres and Ingrit (Everson) Krogan on Stump Ridge, Folsom. Thea was united in marriage to Arne Fortney; they spent their lives in the Folsom area, rural Viroqua. Thea was survived by her children: Eleanor Oftedahl, Molly Mahnke, Almon (Sonja) Fortney, Du Wayne Fortney, and Marcus (Dorothy) Fortney; grandchildren: Kent Oftedahl, Cheryl (Jeff) Sanwick, Michael Mahnke, Scott (Rhonda) Mahnke, and Nolan Fortney; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandson, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; eleven brothers and sisters; sons-in-law Kenneth Oftedahl and John Mahnke; and granddaughter Jackie Fortney. The family thanks Vernon Manor Staff for the wonderful care Thea received and also sends a special Thank You to Pastor Kathy Ingbritson. In lieu of thank you notes, the family extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has expressed their sympathy with memorial contributions and flowers. Blessed be the memory of Thea Fortney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery.
