Thelma Berger, 90, of Westby died Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Thelma Belinda Berger, age 90, died Wednesday, February 20th, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby, WI. Thelma was born May 26, 1922 to John and Ella (Hanson) Berger. As a homemaker, Thelma spent her life cooking and caring for others. She was a faithful and devoted daughter who provided care to her parents till their deaths. Later in life, Thelma used these skills to become a successful exhibitor at the Vernon County Fair, sometimes exhibiting as many as two hundred entries. This dedication led to her being honored with a 'Friend of the Fair' award in 2004. Thelma was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Westby and enjoyed spending time with friends at Ladies Aid and Circle functions. She spent countless hours serving at Lenten Services, making spritz for the Syttende Mai, and baking and canning for the bazaar. Thelma enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, watching soap operas, baking, and canning. Visitors to her house never left hungry! Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella; brother, Jordahl Berger; nephew, John Juno; relative, Bill Parrish. She is survived by her brother, LeVerne (Helen) Berger of Edna, TX; nephews Scott (Peggy) Berger and Bruce Berger; niece Hope Juno; the cousin that she raised, John (Kari) Hanson. Other special family members in her life were Randy, Kolton, Travis, and Lauren Berger; Samantha and Kaitlin Juno; Zach and Sam Cummer, and Gunnar Hanson. She will always be lovingly remembered for her generosity and kindness to others. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate with burial in the Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday after 12:30 p.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
