Thelma Larson, 97, of Westby died Monday, February 28, 2011. Thelma Lenore (Haakenson) Larson, age 97 of Westby, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Norseland Nursing Home. She was born on May 29, 1913 in Westby, Wis to Christian and Randine (Nordrum) Haakenson. On April 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Vernon L. Larson. Thelma was a member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She loved to quilt and sold many quilts in New York City and Pennsylvania. She loved flowers, cooking and her Norwegian heritage. Her coffee pot was never empty ad she had an endless supply of cookies. Thelma is survived by two children: a daughter, Karen Hodge of Quartzsite, AZ and a son, Roger L. (Barb) Larson of Westby; five grandchildren: Eric (Elizabeth) Klinger of Ardmore, OK, Sheri (Mike) Hall of Westby, Cheryl (Art) Gurney of Milton, Wis, Brad (Jackie) Larson of Janesville, and Angela Larson of LaCrosse; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; a son-in-law, David Hodge; seven sisters: Agnes, Hazel, Helen, Ragna, Esther, Ruby, and Myrna; one brother, Andrew Oluf; sisters-in-law, Doris Lovstad and Ruth Larson. Blessed be our memory of Thelma Larson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 12:30 until the time of service.
