Therese M. Fortney

Therese M. Fortney, age 80, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born on June 11, 1944, in La Crosse to Lawrence and Ethel (Leahy) Kearney. Following her schooling, she did housekeeping and was a farm wife in the Gays Mills area. She married Victor Fortney and helped him on the farm. After Victor’s death, she moved to Soldiers Grove before relocating to Viroqua. Therese loved to shop and take trips to Wal Mart in La Crosse.

Survivors include her son, Victor Fortney Jr.; her brothers, John (Michaelene) Kearney of Janesville, and Dennis (Bonnie) Kearney of Viroqua; and several nieces and nephews.

Therese was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Kearney, Lawrence (Mary Lou) Kearney Jr., Joseph Kearney, Thomas (Mary Lee) Kearney; and her sister, Mary (Ronald) Hirschfield.

Memorials in memory of Therese are appreciated to St. James Catholic Cemetery in Rising Sun.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Therese will be laid to rest at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Rising Sun. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
