Thomas Arthur Dagnon, age 88 of LaCrosse, died Friday, February 13, 2009. Thomas A. Dagnon, 88, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at Hillview Heath Care Center. Tom was born September 22, 1920 to Joseph and Alma (Lee) Dagnon in Ferryville. He graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee. On Feb. 9, 1946, Thomas married Lucille Gilman in Milwaukee. He worked for Nash Kelvinator in Milwaukee before buying DX Bulk Oil Co. in Retreat, which he operated along with his wife for many years. He later worked for the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation. After retiring from the DOT, Tom travelled extensively with his wife, spending 21 winters in Texas and Arizona. He was a member of the Stoddard United Methodist Church. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving for 8 years. He was stationed in the South Pacific for all of World War II. He was a member of the Genoa American Legion and a lifetime member of the DeSoto VFW Post 8123, the National Chief Petty Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. Tom was a proud veteran and for many years served with the VFW for funerals and Memorial Day services. Tom was an avid sportsman; he loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed a good game of cards, especially euchre with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lucille; a son, Randy (Debbie) Dagnon of La Crosse and a daughter, Kathy (Gary) Dagnon-Mansavage of Yuma, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Thomas (Rebekah) Dagnon of Carrum Downs, Australia, Colin Dagnon of La Crosse, Sister Sophie Marie of St. Jodard, France, Amy Klarkowski of Wausau, and Joseph Jacobson of Madison, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Joseph Dagnon, one brother, Donald Dagnon, and one sister, Gertrude Faber. We wish to thank the staff at Hillview, especially Ryan, for all of the wonderful care. Tom dearly loved his family and they loved him. He will be missed greatly by all. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Retreat United Methodist Church. Pastors Lewis Lebakken and Mel Brinkley will officiate with burial in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main (Hwy 82) in DeSoto. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Stoddard United Methodist Church. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of DeSoto is serving the family.
